Dominic: Hello and welcome back to another edition of Under the Covers, a golf podcast where you deep dive each week in the latest PGA tour winners bag. We are your hosts. My name is Dominic. Kevin, how are you doing on this fine evening?
Kevin Spisak: Doing great, Dominic. Just just barely recovered from a phenomenal weekend with the boys, but we're doing good right now.
Dominic: Hm. And that brings us to Matt. What's going on, Matt?
Chief Wedge Officer: Dom, I'm doing fantastic. I'm still buzzing from last week. I checked the reports. I still haven't made a bogey.
Dominic: What a what an insane twenty-seven holes out of our boy. What is it? Six birdies total, zero bogeys.
Chief Wedge Officer: yeah, shout out Kyle from Gimme Golf. he he said you made zero bogeys and you made zero dollars. So congratulations.
Kevin Spisak: Yeah.
Dominic: Guy's the best.
Chief Wedge Officer: That was that was that was humble pie right there for sure. But otherwise good stuff.
Dominic: So we got a fun episode for you. a little bit shorter, a little bit different, because we are going to kind of split things up a little bit. Next week, we thought it'd be kind of fun to kind of host our own award show. We're gonna call it the Clubbies. And we're gonna go through and kind of create some of our own awards for, you know, best manufacturer, best driver, different things like that. So definitely stay tuned and make sure you catch next week's episode as well. I know the the golf season is officially over, but we still got some golf to to talk about.
Chief Wedge Officer: I think one of the awards we're gonna do is a worst club advertisement. If you can guess who will win that, email us at under the coversgolf at gmail dot com and we'll send you we'll send you a driver for three hundred and fifty dollars of of that exact manufacturer.
Dominic: Ha ha ha.
Kevin Spisak: Ha ha ha.
Dominic: No relation to last week's episode.
Chief Wedge Officer: None, not at all.
Kevin Spisak: Ha ha.
Dominic: So that brings us to the tour championship. As we got through our own weekend championship, there was also a much much smaller one going on over at East Lake. and our boy, friend of the pod, I know he listens. Scotty Scheffler is our tour champion. he, you know, I feel like he kind of deserves all of this. We already know that he's the best golfer of the year. But it kind of just makes sense and as a little cherry on top of his incredible season to actually win two of the three playoff tournaments. So going through his scores of this weekend, started hot with a 65, then went 67, 66, 66. So pretty consistent. 16 under, close out the season. going into Sunday, Victor had a one-shot lead. And immediately Scotty was three under after the front nine. So It was very like it was one of those where you look away for a little bit and then you check the scores and everything's completely changed. So Scotty was burning and Victor was bogeing. And that's just kinda it doesn't work for this kind of tournament. Tough scene from our Norwegian brother. But, you know, I don't think that people should be freaking out as much over this sand incident, but we'll get to that eventually. We're on Scotty right now. like I said He's had incredible year. Everyone keeps saying he's had an off year, which is hilarious. Out of what do you what was there? 20 starts, something like that. He was top five in sixty-five percent of his starts this year. Which is insane. you know, three wins total. So we can do the math there for two three. But last week everyone was asking, is it gonna be Wyndham, player of the year? Godd up, 50. They all have three wins, and then now Scotty gets his third. And I feel like it's it's gotta be Scotty for player of the year. It's always been Scotty, it always will be. I'm not sure. Do you all have any thoughts there for what they're gonna say for player of the year and Scotty this tournament?
Chief Wedge Officer: I I think like he's obviously the player of the year. I it was it was somewhat up in the air this week and like there was a bunch of people that were like, No, it's Scotty. even though he didn't win a major. but I think if Wyndham won it would have been like kind of a conversation. but I think that's really like the only person that could have like even Even had another chance.
Dominic: Yeah. Is it is
Kevin Spisak: Yeah.
Dominic: because it's a major?
Chief Wedge Officer: Yeah, like because you won the US Open and that's the only reason why.
Kevin Spisak: Yeah. I think before Scotty won the St. Jude and then obviously the tour championship, I think it was trending towards Wyndham being player of the year. you know, especially with kind of his comeback, how far how far he fell down in the World Golf ranks and then to like climb back up and have such a good season and just be right there in contention for you know a lot of events on top of what he won. you know, but Scotty also was in contention for a lot of events that he didn't win, and then he won two of the final, you know, two of out of four you know, the final events and You know, he he just it's like the Thanos thing from, you know, the Avengers where he's like, I am inevitable. Like
Dominic: Yeah.
Kevin Spisak: Scotty just comes back and just dominates. Like, you know, they showed on the broadcast on Sunday that he like a lot of big names and good players were finishing like rounds over par on Sunday specifically. And you know, Scotty, you know, really differentiated himself as like why he's so good with the round he put together and you know, then therefore he deserves the victory and, you know, got a deciding, you know, a a big victory at a three stroke lead, you know, on on a tough day. So great, great work from Scotty there.
Chief Wedge Officer: Dude s Scotty was like it was like I was I was doing something and I looked up and it was like hole two that Scotty was playing, which is like a stupid long par three. And Scotty hits it to like a foot. Not even a foot, like an inch. And I was like,
Dominic: Yeah, it was a it was a revolution.
Chief Wedge Officer: Scotty's gonna win. Like if he's hitting it like that on a on a on a left like Scotty doesn't generally hit like he doesn't generally hit well to like left pins because he plays a fade and he literally hit it to a left pin to an inch on like and then like by the time like it he was tied, I think it was like maybe mid to late of the front eye. I was like, why why do I even watch? He's gonna he's gonna destroy these people. Like s Victor Hovel and like good player, sorry, if he's not like making everything he looks at, he's not gonna compete. Adam Scott felt like he was never going to make a birdie. That looked
Dominic: Yeah.
Chief Wedge Officer: horrible. They just look terrible out there. And then like everyone else, it was just like, I mean, got her up, kinda like made a sniff for a while, but like otherwise it was just like you were watching and this was like truly the first like there's no chance they're they're all tied and there's no chance anybody catches Scotty. That's what it that was like it what it truly felt like.
Dominic: Yeah.
Kevin Spisak: Yep. Did you see his comments about like the golf course? Not like in the pin locations.
Dominic: That was a very interesting
Chief Wedge Officer: Yeah.
Dominic: like answer. And that's one of those
Kevin Spisak: Yeah.
Dominic: where guys like that just think differently. It was pretty cool.
Chief Wedge Officer: 'Cause they need everybody's gonna make par or something, so why are we even playing?
Kevin Spisak: Yeah, yeah. He he brought up like I think it was the was it the ninth hole? I I could be wrong about the hole, but it was like through three rounds the the eighty-seven different, you know, scores on it and seventy-nine of them were par. So, you know, why are we playing it? Just skip it and move on to the next one. You know, and it's like all because these like more modern golf courses have huge fairways and huge greens, but then they tuck the pin to be like three yards off the edge. You know, so you're you're left with the decision of just going for the middle of the green and having a long birdie putt, likely make par, or you know, if you try to go at the pin then if you miss by a little bit, then you won't be able to get up and down for par. you know, so then most people just play it safe, make par, you know, so it it his criticism I think makes sense when he explains it like that. I feel like it was like a little bit surprising to hear that from him rather than like I feel like Rory's kinda had some comments like that, you know, this year. And I feel like that kind of makes sense for him. I a little surprised to hear from Scotty.
Chief Wedge Officer: Just wait till they get to PGA Frisco next year. They're gonna love it.
Kevin Spisak: Yeah.
Dominic: Feel like the way Scotty answers in press conferences now compared to Rory, like Rory used to be like the poster boy, the he would never answer it in like a negative sense, I feel like, whenever he was younger. But now that this whole live thing happened, he's kind of gotten like cynical towards the media. Rory has.
Kevin Spisak: Mm-hmm.
Dominic: So like the way Scotty answers now, I think puts him in such good graces to where when he does talk about core setup. people like receive it better. If that makes sense. Like it's almost like people listen more where it's like, yeah, that's actually a good point. Whereas if it was Rory
Kevin Spisak: Hmm. Yeah.
Dominic: they would just say, like my dad, he's he's just complaining. He's just blah blah.
Kevin Spisak: Yeah.
Chief Wedge Officer: Yeah, Scotty has good answers. I I like what Scotty has to say. I I guess I maybe would disagree a little bit because like if he's like, Okay, eighty however many people, eighty seven went through and seventy nine made par, I mean that
Dominic: It was only like two or three off, whatever the numbers were.
Chief Wedge Officer: That mean that means like a handful of people made birdie or worse. So like I don't know.
Dominic: It was it was a very close number to where it was I think it was like one or two off.
Chief Wedge Officer: Yeah, I mean, I don't know. I th there's it's gonna be interesting when these guys get to courses that are that are built f like I said before, that are built for the longest players in the world and championship golf like PJ Frisco, like they're gonna they're gonna freak out 'cause they seem to like hate whenever golf courses are built for like this. Built built for this type of golf. And and like we can get into another conversation 'cause like East Lake's East East Lake stinks. Like East Lake is So boring. I mean it looks cool and it's but when you put these guys on Zoja grass, it's just they're gonna like destroy the golf course. It doesn't matter how long it is. 'Cause the ball just like sits up on like a T in the fairway. So
Dominic: Do you have any thoughts on East Lake Matt? Like do
Kevin Spisak: Yeah.
Dominic: you have any like do you like it?
Chief Wedge Officer: Would I like to play it? Yes. I don't know, it just doesn't like like when I watch Pebble or I watch really cool golf courses, I feel like I can remember holes. I've watched East Lake for let's just say I've been watching golf for ten years. The only hole I can tell you is that par five that they finish on where it kinda like goes down the hill over And that's it.
Dominic: Yeah.
Kevin Spisak: You know, across
Chief Wedge Officer: Like we see every year.
Kevin Spisak: across this whole season, you know, we've been talking about the hardest holes on the PJ tour. Just just give me a guess on hole number one is the hardest hole in scoring average for East Lake. Where do you think that falls for the whole season?
Chief Wedge Officer: I think it definitely falls like top five. It's like five
Kevin Spisak: Top five.
Chief Wedge Officer: it's like five hundred and twenty yard par four up the hill.
Kevin Spisak: Five ten, yeah. Where just that's Matt's
Dominic: Give me like I'm I'm just gonna say really the low number.
Kevin Spisak: guess down, what do you think?
Dominic: Bottom five.
Kevin Spisak: bottom five would be i if that's impossible it'd have to be in the bottom eighteen because i said it's the hardest
Dominic: What you know what I'm saying. I'm saying I feel like it's gonna be low compared rather than high.
Kevin Spisak: was forty-fourth for the season. so it its hardest hole, you know, East Lake, you know, is forty-fourth, which isn't really anything to write home about. So while it's five hundred and ten yards, the scoring average was point two three shots above par. The second hardest hole, now here here's like the real guess. the second hardest hole is number fourteen, five hundred and thirty yard par four. where do you think that ranks?
Dominic: So the hardest one was forty four.
Kevin Spisak: Mm-hmm.
Dominic: Would be like over a hundred? Or is it like forty five?
Kevin Spisak: Yeah, definitely over a hundred.
Dominic: wow.
Chief Wedge Officer: One hundred and fiftieth?
Kevin Spisak: 217th. That's
Dominic: Whoa.
Chief Wedge Officer: Off.
Kevin Spisak: the second hardest hole. And then the third hardest hole is number nine that Scotty talked about. 260 yard par three was two hundred and twenty-six. So they go 44, 217, 226. That just like screams that there's lots and lots and lots of pars across the course. So it's like goes right in line with what Scotty's saying, you know, or Or even holes that are like below our scoring average, there's there's plenty.
Dominic: So is that out of there's thirty four tournaments? So is it six hundred and twelve is like the lowest number?
Kevin Spisak: Seven hundred and twenty is the lowest number.
Chief Wedge Officer: I'm just glad this is the last one more year.
Kevin Spisak: and sorry.
Chief Wedge Officer: One more year basically.
Kevin Spisak: Yeah. East Lake does have the seven hundred and thirteenth hardest hole. So it's seventh easiest. With numbers
Chief Wedge Officer: I bet it's up.
Kevin Spisak: number six, par five, five twenty-five. It averaged point six six four shots under par.
Dominic: Do know why that became like the tour championship spot every single year?
Chief Wedge Officer: Supposedly like I guess it was like Jay Monhan or somebody before maybe even before him. They signed some like lifetime lifelong deal with East Lake that they will always be the tour championship. But like
Dominic: gee.
Chief Wedge Officer: somehow Brian Rolap already got out.
Dominic: So is changing it to lowercase tour get him out of the contract?
Chief Wedge Officer: Yeah.
Dominic: What a switch by the way. I I was wondering if that was on purpose, had it was all caps. I didn't realize it was like such a big marketing switch that they went to lowercase.
Chief Wedge Officer: I had no idea. I didn't even notice I knew I always remember that I always remember that Twitter account that that flips the O and the U and they're like a they like tweet fun
Kevin Spisak: Yeah.
Chief Wedge Officer: stuff and I sometimes I would actually think it's the PJ Tor.
Dominic: Yeah, like Centel, NBA Centel.
Kevin Spisak: Yeah. Yeah.
Chief Wedge Officer: Yeah.
Dominic: Well let's let's
Kevin Spisak: well.
Dominic: so I'll say it's gonna be a shorter episode. We have already talked about Scotty's clubs. so if you wanted to hear his under the covers, then go to the two episodes ago whenever we went over the FedEx St. Jude championship. And but for this week we'll just kinda you know, we haven't talked about Victor yet, but we will. But then we'll kinda get into some of the more more golf news that's been going on. So w with Victor, Matt, do you have a specific take on the whole situation? Like there's been a lot of different people talking about it. I'm I'm very curious to see or hear what you think about it.
Chief Wedge Officer: The sand the sand and the dip and the putting ball behind the putting the club behind the ball.
Dominic: Yeah. So do you wanna explain it if people haven't heard about it yet? And then give me give me your thoughts.
Chief Wedge Officer: Yeah. So there was like a a an image of like Victor taking the club back in the sand and like those guys get so close to the sand. One, I don't know why they have to get so close. Like I feel like I'm not even close I'm in the sand, but they get so
Kevin Spisak: Yeah.
Chief Wedge Officer: close. And like there was like basically a still image of like There was like tiny bit of sand that was taken out on the way back, which is technically a penalty. It well I have to say is if this is Patrick Reed, the golf world would be up in arms. But because it's nice guy, Victor Hoblin, everybody is he didn't mean to do it, it's not his fault. Like, neither did Patrick Reed. So you guys need to get out get up get either
Dominic: That's so false, Matt.
Chief Wedge Officer: be consistent on Victor or or Don't hate on my boy P. Reed. P. Reed should be on the president's code.
Dominic: Okay. Go
Chief Wedge Officer: Yeah.
Dominic: sit in your corner for a second.
Chief Wedge Officer: Now, before I go to the n before we go to the next point, I think the whole laying ten different clubs behind the ball fourteen different times, that that rule's got to go. They gotta change that rule.
Dominic: Saying you shouldn't be allowed to do it.
Chief Wedge Officer: Yeah, like when you're in the rough and you put the club fourteen times behind the ball to like get yourself a better it hit the back the
Kevin Spisak: And P he reads the king of that. He would put a three wood behind his ball to be like, Hmm, I might hit this three wood eighty yards. No, actually I'll use a wedge now.
Chief Wedge Officer: Totally agree. I think that rule is bad. I think the the microscopic image of some friggin' loser sitting on their couch watching TV and needs if you're gonna if you're gonna police Patrick Reed like that, we to be consistent.
Dominic: Well, the thing is though, P Reed literally swiped sand out of the way of his ball. And that improved his lie. That's that's a
Kevin Spisak: Yeah.
Dominic: fact. The video, you don't even need a video, a zoom in video to see it. Like he clearly swiped sand backwards. Victor, like, I could barely even see it in the still photo that there's some sand flattened. So it's like That doesn't improve his lie at all. I know there ha there has to be a line somewhere, or else it's a lot of is it subjective or objective?
Chief Wedge Officer: It's like a lot of like is it a catch or not a catch in football?
Dominic: Yeah, exactly. Des did. But anyways, with this one, like when it's flat, like it was a maybe a few grains that got pushed down and it didn't improve anything. And like you can barely even see it in a picture, so he couldn't see it. But with you know, if we're comparing it to P Reed, it was clearly like he swiped it back 'cause he needed that out of the way. That's where I think it's different. I'm just like I
Kevin Spisak: Yeah. Didn't P redo it twice?
Dominic: Yeah.
Kevin Spisak: He like swiped sand twice away from his ball.
Dominic: And it was like very close to each other, I'm pretty sure.
Kevin Spisak: Yeah.
Dominic: After people are already watching him, he still chose to do it. I just don't think it needs to be that cre like P Reads, yes.
Kevin Spisak: Yeah.
Dominic: That one's kind of annoying. The the stamping behind the rough, that's annoying. But like I don't see why it's such a huge deal. Like you can barely even tell.
Kevin Spisak: Yeah.
Chief Wedge Officer: Much is too much, Tom.
Dominic: Yeah, that's that's the hard part. It's like there's gotta be a line somewhere.
Kevin Spisak: This didn't change his lie at all. You know, it was so minuscule that it didn't change his line at all. Or his lie. And again, this goes back to what I've talked about in the past that it's like just so obnoxious, like you have more chances to get penalized when you have more cameras if you're in contention.
Chief Wedge Officer: And and Camera loves Patrick Reed, so he gets penalized.
Dominic: No, that's a great point, Kevin.
Kevin Spisak: Because the camera's looking for him. He need he needs people to look out for him because he's so slimy.
Dominic: 'Cause like how many people how many people would get a ten X, twenty X time zoom into your club? You know, like nobody's nobody else is getting that except for Victor.
Kevin Spisak: Yeah. If they did that for every single shot for every single player and analyzed it, okay, whatever. You'd find a whole bunch of rules violations and go ahead. But like you can't just like pick and choose which rule v rules violations just because someone's like in contention and the cameras are twenty times magnified.
Dominic: Yeah. And when it's like to the naked eye, Bryson was moving stuff. You didn't need to zoom in and replay it a million times. Like it was pretty clear that he was standing behind his ball. Whereas like you need to you need like microscop micro magnifying glass, thank you. You
Kevin Spisak: Microscope, magnifying glass.
Dominic: need a magnifying glass to see Victor's thing. I don't know. I it's same
Kevin Spisak: Yeah.
Dominic: same but different.
Kevin Spisak: And like how many times do you think someone is on a side hill and they put their club on the grass and the ball moves an eighth of an inch
Dominic: Yeah.
Kevin Spisak: and nobody says boo about that? Yeah.
Chief Wedge Officer: I think you should be able to put your club down before you hit the ball, essentially. Like if you put your club down behind the ball, you have to make a swing at it.
Dominic: yeah. I like that.
Chief Wedge Officer: But we should also get rid of the rule, if you put your club down and the ball moves a little bit, it's not a penalty. Like you you should be able to put your club down once.
Kevin Spisak: Mm-hmm. Even in a bunker. Okay. Just
Dominic: So then
Kevin Spisak: me I was just bringing it back home to Victor, just making sure that's what you meant. Yeah.
Dominic: Quick clarification though, for you Matt. So if you put your club down once, you have to swing it. So then like if you put your club down and your ball moves, you can't like pick up and go, Whoa, it moved. You just you have to make a swing at it, no matter what. I don't hate that actually. Cause then if it does move,
Kevin Spisak: Yeah. Right.
Dominic: you're not you're s you're almost at a disadvantage 'cause you made it move because it's gonna mess you up a little
Chief Wedge Officer: Yeah.
Dominic: bit.
Chief Wedge Officer: How many people have been penalized for like accidentally putting the club down and then with the ball moves, right? It's like it's not their fault. You're just putting your club down the
Dominic: Yeah. Interesting. Beautiful. All right. Well
Chief Wedge Officer: Defending my book.
Kevin Spisak: We we can fix the rules of golf. Brian roll up, reach
Dominic: We're we're solving it.
Kevin Spisak: out to under the covers, we got ya.
Dominic: Under the covers at gmail dot com.
Chief Wedge Officer: We will go undercover and fix the rules
Kevin Spisak: Yeah.
Chief Wedge Officer: itself.
Kevin Spisak: Under the coverage golf.com website. Yeah.
Dominic: Yeah, if you didn't know, we have a website.
Chief Wedge Officer: Kevin.
Dominic: All right, Matt. Well, did y'all have anything else about the tour championship?
Chief Wedge Officer: I think if we do not put girls and guys at the same tour championship, it's a huge miss in the future. That's that's my big
Dominic: I think it's a great idea.
Chief Wedge Officer: Like why if if we're gonna move it to match play and we're gonna change the whole theme and there's only thirty players on the golf course and there's matches, like why not put sixty players in the golf course and have girls and guys there at the same time? Double the marketing, double whatever, share the profits with the LPJ tour.
Kevin Spisak: Yeah.
Dominic: And you get a great you get a great chance to see other people too that you not normally see. Like if you never get a W
Chief Wedge Officer: Right. And
Dominic: D P W L I mean L P GA tournament in your city, then like you can go watch the best ones at one time.
Chief Wedge Officer: Yeah.
Dominic: What was someone saying, we were talking this weekend, I don't know if it was you or the other guy, but someone was saying like to not have any fans and only have it on TV for the the match play tournament. So like I think they're the point was there's no distractions for the players and then the the private clubs like like a Pine Valley that doesn't want that many spectators out there, you get a chance to see the course, but you don't get a million you know, tens of thousands of people walking around and ruining it.
Chief Wedge Officer: It's definitely gonna be a corporate event. Like it's not gonna be for public. That
Dominic: Yeah.
Chief Wedge Officer: I for this is a strictly like how do we how do we please the biggest advertisers from the year?
Dominic: Mm-hmm.
Chief Wedge Officer: and our biggest partners that spend hundreds of millions of dollars with us to host PGA tour events. That's what that's what the tour championship is is becoming.
Dominic: Yeah, that's fair. Yeah, 'cause then you can like if it's a corporate event, then you can set guidelines with people as they're like signing up and all that. Okay.
Chief Wedge Officer: Yeah. Yeah. So Miller
Dominic: Right.
Chief Wedge Officer: Rice, congrats. He's the best player in the world by far. It's not really close.
Dominic: Signed seal delivered. Very true. So there's some some fun stuff going on in the the golf world this week. the most important I would say happened just before recording tonight. The President's Cup picks have been made officially. Matt, do you want to go through just kind of an intro on the President's Cup if people don't know, and then we can kind of talk about the picks.
Chief Wedge Officer: Yeah, so the President's Cup is technically a copy of the Ryder Cup, you could call it. but basically it was the PGA Tours way of creating something like the Ryder Cup. it's the United States team versus international. So basically everybody that's not Europe. so everybody that's not playing in the Ryder Cup gets to play against the United States team. so a couple of rules. You have to play on the PGA Tour, you have to be a PGA Tour member. and the picks are, you know, they have a captain and all this sort of stuff. the international team has like famously never won. They've tied like once or twice. we always kinda like roast the internationals, especially without Europe, right? So you got like Australia, you got Asia, you have South America, and in recent years with Live, Live has pulled more international players than than off the PJ Tour than American players. it has really, really hurt like the international team, right? 'Cause you don't have like Walking Neiman, you don't have well John Rahman's a rider cover, so I guess really like Walking Neiman is the big one. I say that foot and mouth, I guess, saying that they've taken a lot of from the team. Cam Smith, I guess you could say, even though he kinda stinks now. Lucas Herbert should probably be on the team this year, even though he's on Lib, but he's like one of the better international players. So Things of that nature.
Kevin Spisak: quick correction there, Matt. The you're you're forgetting about the famous nineteen ninety-eight international team victory.
Chief Wedge Officer: Did they win?
Kevin Spisak: They did, yeah. That that
Chief Wedge Officer: Yeah.
Kevin Spisak: was a beatdown. They won twenty and a half points to eleven and a half.
Dominic: Yeah.
Chief Wedge Officer: See, that's how much I watch the President's Cup I you know.
Kevin Spisak: Nineteen ninety eight.
Chief Wedge Officer: They they've done a good job. They try to do a good job with like venues and stuff. Like they went to Royal Melbourne one year, which was sweet, and things like that. Like they do they do good stuff, so But yeah, we got our picks today. So I can I'm gonna walk through the team. stop me if you feel inclined to talk about somebody on the team. so surprise, surprise, Scotty, number one. our boy Cam Young. he was an absolute dog in the Ryder Cup last year, so I'm excited to see him in the President's Cup again for sure. we have bad boy cheater man Wyndham Clark. so hopefully he can cheat his way to help us win win win the President's Cup. you know. You know, I hear Medina Greens are are nice and soft, bent grass. He can do some really good trenching there. I think it's gonna be I think it's gonna be trenching central for sure.
Dominic: Love it.
Chief Wedge Officer: I saw I I on a quick aside, I did hear something about Windham. I guess he ha the way he has the lead tape set up on the bottom of the ping putter, he He likes how it soles. Like he doesn't like how I guess like rounded the bottom of the ping putter is. So the way he has the lead tape makes the ping bottom of the ping putter essentially flat. So it feels better when it like soles it against the ground.
Dominic: that's cool. I didn't know that.
Chief Wedge Officer: Yeah. I did hear that this weekend. So but yeah, hopefully, you know, he gets some good good trenching in. we have Sam Burns who has been like runner up a bunch of times this year, so not surprised. I'm sure he's gonna get paired with Scotty and be kinda like Scotty's security blanket for the week. make him feel comfortable.
Kevin Spisak: Yeah.
Chief Wedge Officer: Why are you laughing at?
Kevin Spisak: Sounded like that sounded like such a slight towards Scotty.
Dominic: I know.
Kevin Spisak: Like he needs a security blanket.
Chief Wedge Officer: They're they're besties. They're besties. You gotta have your buddy there. Russell Henley. There's no slight there. Sc Sam Burns is a dog. I mean he doesn't he d I don't think he's I I wanna see him win, but he's a dog. Although I think they lost at the Ryder Cup like ten and nine or something, or like eight and seven one year. So that was that was bad.
Dominic: Yeah.
Chief Wedge Officer: But hopefully they turn around. Russell Henley you know, I'm not excited about this one because I feel like he he plays so well in the PGA tour and then he gets to these and he doesn't like all these courses are massive. Like he's he's not gonna go out and like wow you with birdies, you know what I mean? And that's what you need in match play as
Dominic: Yeah.
Chief Wedge Officer: evidence weak dumb.
Dominic: I I do think he's like sneaky he's been sneaky good all year. Like very he's not talked about enough. I feel like, you know, he had the colonial win, but I feel like he's always been in contention. He just kinda hangs around. So well I guess I mean, we haven't really gotten into this, but how how are these teams chosen? Like do the quick explanation of that.
Chief Wedge Officer: So yeah, I'm going through right now, I'm going through the automatic qualifiers. So so these guys were automatically qualified through points throughout the year. so Scotty, Cam Young, Windham, Sam Burns, Russell, and then the last pick is Colin More or the last automatic qualifier is Colin Morikawa. So six automatic qualifiers. so Captain Brant Snedeker has no choice but to peep keep these guys on the team.
Dominic: Mm-hmm.
Chief Wedge Officer: Not excited about Colin Warakawa. A little I he's a little he's a little toddler. He just feels like a little baby out there.
Kevin Spisak: Yeah.
Chief Wedge Officer: like if I see I'm not scared to play Colin Warakawa. I'm so I'm sorry. I'm just I mean, I would be personally scared to play Colin Warakawa. But I don't I feel like Adam Scott versus Colin Warkawa. Like I'm picking Adam Scott.
Dominic: Yeah. I am surprised.
Kevin Spisak: Colin Morakao has the fourth best win-loss record in in President's Cup of the current roster. So I don't know. You should throw some respect on his name. His rider, his writer,
Chief Wedge Officer: But look at his Ryder Cup record. Like did you trust him at
Kevin Spisak: or his rider cup record, I don't know. Maybe it's not as good, but President's Cup, as it's kind of like the little brother cup, he he's six and two. So it's a good performance there. You've got the the best being Justin Thomas at ten three and two, then Patrick Cantley and Xander Shoffley are ten and four.
Chief Wedge Officer: Yeah.
Kevin Spisak: But Scotty is surprisingly three, five, and one, so
Chief Wedge Officer: Yeah, he never really shows up in some of these things.
Kevin Spisak: Got some work to do.
Chief Wedge Officer: But Tiger
Dominic: What's the
Chief Wedge Officer: wasn't the best Ryder Cup Presidents Cup player either.
Kevin Spisak: Yeah.
Chief Wedge Officer: Sorry, go for it though.
Dominic: Well what's the what's the qualifying points? Like if it's official world golf ranking then Shoffley is above Morikawa.
Chief Wedge Officer: It's not. It's like FedEx Cup. It's a combination of FedEx Cup. I think it's like a combination of a bunch of stuff.
Dominic: okay, gotcha.
Chief Wedge Officer: Yeah. like but I think like the reason like Scotty is so good because over four rounds he will he will beat you. But for anybody on the PJ tour can beat anybody in 18 holes. And I think that's
Kevin Spisak: Yeah.
Chief Wedge Officer: why the most dominant players like Tiger and and those guys didn't aren't as good in the Ryder Cup as they are in like normal four round stroke play golf. Which is why the
Kevin Spisak: Yeah.
Chief Wedge Officer: new tour championship format anybody can win.
Kevin Spisak: Yeah, in in the Ryder Cup Kalamoracao was four three and one, so still winning record.
Chief Wedge Officer: Okay. Okay. I mean ha I would love to be wrong. Hand up. so now we get to the captain's picks. So these are essentially picks that that Captain Brandt Seneca can make f to whoever he feels like. He usually picks people pretty close to qualifying. but we got Chris Goddard up. I think everybody knows he was gonna get picked. He was famously slighted for the Ryder Cup last year. Xander Shafley He's kind of one of the guys that's the normal players on the American team. He's kind of always there. big one, Jackson Coivin. that one's surprising, for sure. The young gun, they must see a lot of potential in him that he's gonna make the Ryder Cup next year. so yeah, that one's that one's one of my favorites for sure today.
Dominic: You think it's a j is that just a vibes pick? gotta be right. I mean he's playing well
Chief Wedge Officer: think
Dominic: but
Chief Wedge Officer: I think it's a hey, he could be a big part of the team going forward. Let's get him into a team match before he plays in the Ryder Cup in where are we? Spain. no, Ir Ireland next year. Like let's get him some experience before we go to
Dominic: Okay. I like that.
Kevin Spisak: Does he have a big like Walker Cup resume?
Chief Wedge Officer: He does, yeah.
Kevin Spisak: So so he's used to team golf and yeah, he he came firing, you know, when he made his pro debut and had a good end of the season. You know, if if he had a full season length maybe he would have qualified, you know, my on his own.
Chief Wedge Officer: But he could be like a good partner for Scotty too, because like he's Jackson is like one of the best putters on tour. and like if you had Scotty's approach game and then you p you g you give Jackson Coivan's putting a go and like alternate shot, like they could be great alternate shot partners together. So, you get to like test things like that in the President's Cup, which is cool.
Kevin Spisak: Mm.
Chief Wedge Officer: Justin Thomas, again, one of the staples of kind of the American squad. used to be Jordan Spieth, but he's not close to making the team this year. Patrick Cantley, Xander Shoffley's little brother, security brilliant, playoff.
Kevin Spisak: Yeah.
Chief Wedge Officer: kind of the same deal there. and then Jacob Bridgeman, Dom, your boy, the Bridgman.
Dominic: Love that.
Chief Wedge Officer: Another another rookie another rookie. I I that one was
Dominic: That's gonna be fun. I wonder if it's the same thing, like I never thought of it as using it as like a you know, a precursor to the Ryder Cut, like see how this person does. I could see that being for Brickman too.
Chief Wedge Officer: For sure.
Dominic: Yeah, 'cause he had good year.
Chief Wedge Officer: Yeah, totally. I and he had a good finish this week, so maybe that's
Dominic: Mm-hmm.
Chief Wedge Officer: why. But yeah, it's at Medina, September twenty second, so coming up soon. very, very excited for it. It's gonna be good it's gonna be a good it's gonna be a good week.
Dominic: Mm-hmm. Do we want to go through international picks or no?
Kevin Spisak: The international team, Siwa Kim is is the leader in points, followed by Ryan Fox, Hideki Matsuyama, Mimu Lee, Tom Kim. Adam Scott is the final of the automatic qualifiers. Adam Scott's got a lot of bubbles for appearing in lots of different presidents' cups. But then you've got Corey Connors is the first captain's pick, followed by Nico Echevaria, Sanjay Ryo Hisatsune, Nick Taylor making his first appearance from Canada. And then Christian, you gotta help me with the last name, Matt. Bezudin. All right, Zayd, take your word for it.
Dominic: Christian
Chief Wedge Officer: Christina
Kevin Spisak: Add Adam Scott's president's cup record twenty.
Dominic: It's Christina you idiot Sorry, go back and
Kevin Spisak: Yeah. Adam Scott's presidents cup record twenty, twenty eight, and six. Just really speaks to how many presidents cups he's appeared in, but
Dominic: Yeah.
Kevin Spisak: losing record.
Dominic: That's crazy.
Chief Wedge Officer: yeah, I am not I'm not confident in the international team this year.
Kevin Spisak: Yeah. Only person on the roster with a winning record in presence cut matches is Siwukim at six and five.
Chief Wedge Officer: Do you remember when Si Woo Kim did the Steph Curry night night and they lost?
Dominic: How is it
Chief Wedge Officer: Ha ha ha!
Kevin Spisak: Now that you mention it, yeah, but I definitely had not thought of that.
Dominic: and Tom Kim, like, you know, they were f they're friends and they were doing it like friendly, but gosh, I was cringy. Like they kept walking off the green. You know, like it was so silly. that's just Tom Kim though. He definitely was like, dude, this should be so funny. I was actually gonna say
Chief Wedge Officer: On the PGA tours.
Dominic: Nick Taylor, I'm assuming they grabbed him because of how good he is with like, you know, the Zurich and match play. I mean, alternate shot and stuff. Maybe?
Chief Wedge Officer: Maybe. I don't know.
Kevin Spisak: Yeah.
Chief Wedge Officer: on the PG tour website, cop Tom Kim has already proven to be the international's biggest enforcer.
Dominic: I mean now it's Ryan Fox, right?
Chief Wedge Officer: Yeah.
Dominic: I would not want to get go toe to toe with Ryan Fox. Is are is PGA calling Tom Kim fat?
Kevin Spisak: Ha ha ha.
Dominic: Yeah.
Chief Wedge Officer: mean
Dominic: Hey, I didn't say it. PGA Tour did.
Chief Wedge Officer: I guess with Ryo Hitsatsune you could pair him with Hideki, the Japanese team and they could they could do good. It I think Hideki's always been a tough guy to pair pair with 'cause
Dominic: really?
Chief Wedge Officer: yeah, they've always struggled to find like a good pairing for Hideki. I think they tried to put him with Adam Scott, but it's just like never really worked out.
Dominic: Are they the same the whole weekend? Or is it just like each match is is different?
Kevin Spisak: It could be different. Just depends on who the captain puts out there.
Dominic: Okay, gotcha. Because I don't know if y'all saw in the in the interwebs this week, they're essentially telling or asking SiWu, Kim, and Scotty if Siwoo ever beats Scotty when they play a friendly round. And the answer is no. So like we'll just pair them together. That'd be great. It's like he tied twice,
Chief Wedge Officer: Yeah, they're
Dominic: and that was it.
Chief Wedge Officer: Out at Royal Oaks, just a little south of me. That's that's
Dominic: Or royal oak.
Chief Wedge Officer: that's the spot maybe. but yeah, that's present.
Kevin Spisak: Okay. You get
Chief Wedge Officer: It'll be f it'll be fun.
Kevin Spisak: you guys want an official under the covers trivia question about the president's cup?
Dominic: Yeah.
Kevin Spisak: I'm desperate to have you not get it right, but now I think Matt might know too much about it. you know, so as always, beer chug if one of you two gets it right for the other two. so in Presidents Cup history, Matt alluded to the international team not having great success. and that they did tie once. So The the question is, in two thousand three, that was when they tied, there's a famous picture of Gary Player and Jack Nicholas holding up the trophy together. who who was the final match down to two thousand three, you know, in in the wee hours of the night before they called a tie?
Dominic: Matt, I'm assuming you know the answer. You might as well just say it.
Chief Wedge Officer: Dom take a guess.
Dominic: I don't even know if I have one. Ernie L's? That's my go to answer for if I don't know.
Kevin Spisak: Who who's the other participant in that match?
Dominic: Adam Scott.
Kevin Spisak: And they're on the same team.
Dominic: Damn it. Skip me. I don't want to do it.
Chief Wedge Officer: near so close it was Ernie and Tiger.
Dominic: shit really.
Kevin Spisak: Yeah.
Chief Wedge Officer: Yeah.
Dominic: Half credit.
Kevin Spisak: Dom gets Dom gets two chugs for giving up.
Chief Wedge Officer: Mom, I thought you were gonna get it just by chance.
Dominic: I know, I like, shit, Ernie Els is American and I was like, That's not true
Chief Wedge Officer: Yeah, it was Ernie and I remember they were going in the night and then f Jack and Gary got together. It was in South Africa, right?
Kevin Spisak: yeah. George, South Africa.
Chief Wedge Officer: Yeah.
Kevin Spisak: yeah, Gary Player's hometown or home nation.
Dominic: I feel like I've for sure seen a story on that and I forgot about it. Hmm.
Chief Wedge Officer: yeah. It's all over the place. So Wow, that was a good one, Kev. I like that one.
Kevin Spisak: Well, yep, that's the first one you've gotten in a long time. I I had been asking some harder questions. But
Chief Wedge Officer: We'll have to we'll we'll get you the chug at the end.
Kevin Spisak: Yeah, I I'll chug at the end. Still still hurting from the weekend, so not looking forward to it, but we'll get it in.
Dominic: I got half, you have to chug one and a half.
Kevin Spisak: No, you get two for giving up and guessing someone on the same team.
Dominic: Ha ha ha.
Chief Wedge Officer: Yeah, you deserve one for guessing somebody on the same team.
Dominic: I'll do one. It it cancels out. It cancels out. well. I'm gonna start tweeting at four AM at you 'cause I'm so mad at that. Just like a certain somebody.
Chief Wedge Officer: Are you talking about the good good guys?
Dominic: Yeah.
Chief Wedge Officer: Yeah.
Dominic: If you haven't heard,
Chief Wedge Officer: Yeah.
Dominic: the so Good Good dropped out of or I guess PGA told Good Good to drop out of the tournament that they were sponsoring. And then Callaway turns around and drops Good Good as a sponsor. And then the CEO of Good Good is probably hammered. I mean he he had a couple of of typos. Four AM starts Just drilling Twitter, just trash talking Callaway and essentially saying, they approve this ad, they have us shoot this ad, they do all these things, and then it gets negative feedback, and then they drop us. So he's he's firing off things. He even says it's gonna be a great thirty for thirty-nine. Just mistypes the the nine and zero.
Kevin Spisak: Yeah.
Chief Wedge Officer: They're I they're close on the keyboard.
Dominic: No, yeah, they're right next to each other, but it's so funny. my gosh. Just a ridiculous situation. like
Chief Wedge Officer: Ridiculous.
Dominic: I said, it's it's getting to be a bit much over just a a bad ad. Like they're not bad people. Like it's it's a dumb ad, but they're not bad people. Just let continue to Matt, don't even try. They're a bunch of kids. They have nothing to do with.
Chief Wedge Officer: He's just a kid, Dom. He's just a kid.
Dominic: They had a big corporation telling them, hey, let's shoot this commercial. And they're like, all right, cool, we get to do a commercial with Callaway. And then all this happens, and they're like, this is all your fault, you dumb idiot. I can't believe you would do that. We're gonna drop you, you idiot. Like that's crazy. That's crazy.
Kevin Spisak: Yeah, that that four AM tweet had clearly just as much proofreading as the script for the commercial as well.
Dominic: It's good.
Chief Wedge Officer: it feels like this if you I actually didn't realize this until I was like kinda listening to some other stuff today. but I didn't realize like I feel like the PJ Tour has really taken a turn away from some of the content creators. Like remember when they used to have the creator classic at the at the tour championship and stuff? And like they had like all those guys play nine holes like the what is like the Wednesday before or whatever?
Dominic: Mm-hmm.
Kevin Spisak: Mm-hmm.
Chief Wedge Officer: like has gone away and like all this sort of stuff. There seems to be some like kind not like I don't want to say reset, but like there seems to be some like alright, maybe we invested too much into YouTube golf, like from like a industry perspective. like YouTube golf is its own thing, then like industry golf is is its own thing. And like those don't have to be tied together as much as I think they were. And I think Callaway maybe was like looking for a way out and then like Maybe they kinda got it. They were like, this'll only cost us a million bucks to donate and then peace.
Dominic: That's interesting actually, 'cause yeah, I th I mean there's a lot of speculation that people would rather watch YouTube golf than the PGA Tour. So like giving them a another platform to say, Hey, these guys are entertaining then that makes perfect sense where they're like, actually maybe we shouldn't do that.
Chief Wedge Officer: And it and it almost like 'cause like right, like the Callaway doesn't want people to not watch the PJ Tour. Like they're paying their tour players millions of dollars to play their equipment and that price is not going down.
Dominic: Yeah.
Chief Wedge Officer: so I don't know. There's a bunch of there's a bunch of rumors out there, but I mean I I don't know, like it definitely like Like I bu I I buy a lot of golf clubs and s we well, we all do. But like in my I like I don't know, Callaway just doesn't feel like they're almost like it doesn't feel like they're like a serious brand at the moment. It feels like they're kind of just like trying to figure out who they are. And like, I don't know, like I don't wanna like it's not that like I'm s trading my clubs in because they're Callaway. Like I I kinda wanted a reason to trade the quantum in because I don't really feel like it's that good. But like it's not I I will definitely like not want to buy a Callaway club just because like it feels like they just do weird stuff. And they're always just like trying to throw shit at the wall and it's all marketing.
Kevin Spisak: Yeah. It's all marketing and big buzzwords, quantum, paradigm, epic, yeah,
Chief Wedge Officer: Yeah.
Kevin Spisak: all that. Yeah,
Dominic: Elite with a why.
Chief Wedge Officer: Yeah.
Kevin Spisak: they just slap AI on it and say that it's this AI great thing. And
Chief Wedge Officer: Yeah.
Kevin Spisak: it seems like TaylorMade's getting away from that, but they used to do it. but yeah, Callaway, Callaway's been very disappointing, you know, in like the Odyssey putter space where they just like completely rip off other manufacturers. designs and just claim it as their own and it's just been like very disappointing. I think they were a premiere brand at one time and they've just like gone so far away from that.
Chief Wedge Officer: Yeah. Kevin, I didn't realize that Tulon and Callaway had separated. I didn't 'cause I saw Tulon Golf release like a their own putter line.
Kevin Spisak: What do you mean? I didn't know that they had separated either.
Chief Wedge Officer: Yeah, Toulon Golf is its own thing now.
Kevin Spisak: wow. I I was out of the loop there. Huh.
Chief Wedge Officer: Yeah. 'Cause I like, those are sick putters. I guess Odyssey's doing like another two long release and then it like, No, these are its own thing.
Kevin Spisak: Interesting. Yeah, I gotta look into that. I did not know. I I
Chief Wedge Officer: Yeah.
Kevin Spisak: saw I saw all the new releases and stuff too, but I just assumed it was still a part of the Odyssey package.
Chief Wedge Officer: But yeah, I mean, we got good good is not gonna disappear. Like good good is coming back. They're they're gonna come back. Somebody else is gonna pick up. I really hope it's PHG. That would be hilarious. But I don't I honestly don't know if like another equipment if a manufacturer is gonna touch them. Because like it I bet like this is gonna scare off equipment manufacturers to pick up good good. Because look how much blowback has been on Callaway. Like i if let's just say Let's just throw it out there and say, I don't know, let's just say ping. They never would, but like ping says, Okay, we're gonna sponsor good, good. Imagine how much backlash comes to ping.
Dominic: Yeah. I do think though, like, this is a very interesting one because I've seen more content shaming Callaway than Good Good. Like, there's more people that are understanding normally it's very clear cut, wow, good good needs to be canceled. This is one that I feel like I've seen a lot more people saying, like, okay, we don't need to be like freaking out over this. Like it's kind of a little bit more towards good good side. So I could see maybe a b a bigger manufacturer going to good to good as like a good faith thing. Where it's like, we know that y'all didn't do this. We know that it was Callaway's fault. Let's use that to bring all your Callaway customers to us now.
Chief Wedge Officer: And maybe when the CEO if the CEO of Good Good was right, where Callaway did make them make that ad and it all comes out eventually in in within a year or a few months, right, and and maybe that clears Goodgood's name and then they do get picked up.
Dominic: Yeah.
Chief Wedge Officer: 'Cause they are the biggest. Like to their point, like they are the biggest they are the biggest YouTube golf
Dominic: Mm-hmm. I mean, they sponsored a PGA tour event. That's huge.
Chief Wedge Officer: So Yeah.
Dominic: That's crazy. Well, speaking of, once again, we're gonna let our listeners know if you want a scream and deal on a Callaway Quantum Driver, please, you know, go in the comments, email us under the covers golf at gmail.com. Whatever you want to do, DM us. Matt is selling his currently. Is that right, that? Isn't that right, Matt?
Chief Wedge Officer: It is on eBay. I'll show it's it's it's it's listed on eBay right now. quantum. It's for sale. thirty people viewed it today, so just FYI.
Kevin Spisak: Yeah.
Chief Wedge Officer: Yeah, so I'm selling my quantum. I just don't love it. Like I feel like it spins a lot. maybe that's me. I don't know. I just don't feel like One thing I really have the disliked about the quantum, we are an equipment podcast, is it doesn't have an alignment dot. And that has really thrown me off on the top of the on the top of the crown.
Dominic: It didn't? I didn't notice that.
Chief Wedge Officer: Doesn't have an alignment dot.
Dominic: Weird.
Chief Wedge Officer: and I didn't think much of it when I bought it, but I feel like that has really like usually I line the ball up on the heel of the club. That's like my MO, because I hit a cut and I kind of come across it and make it go left to right. so I just feel like I haven't been able to consistently line it up in the same spot because there's no alignment dot every time. Does that make
Dominic: Yeah.
Chief Wedge Officer: sense?
Dominic: Mm-hmm.
Kevin Spisak: Yeah, definitely.
Dominic: Alignment lines are important. We know that.
Chief Wedge Officer: yeah. So I I am selling it. I will give somebody a screaming deal, especially if they're an award winning listener. so but head only, shaft is a good chef. so I would like to open it up. we're gonna vote on what driver and three wood I should get because I also have a Callaway Maverick three wood that I've been looking to replace for a while. So on the driver's side, I am between the GTS three or four and the G four forty LST. Those are the those are the those are the three that I've narrowed it down to, but really two GTS and and ping G4.
Kevin Spisak: Yeah, I would definitely vote for the Ping G four forty L S T as played by yours truly. I big Ping fan. Love Ping Woods. There's I feel like a cheat code in the forgiveness category. you know, but also can keep the spin down, you know, high performing. You know, so many non ping players play ping drivers throughout the last, you know, how many years, like since the G four hundred came out and even before that. the the GTS three is a phenomenal driver as well. Like there's nothing to sneeze at. I'm little biased though, you know, towards my ping, I would say throw the GTS four out. you know. I don't know, you could do some testing, but I think just ha having a little extra forgiveness in the GTS three would be worth it.
Chief Wedge Officer: Well supposedly the GTS four is different this year is what actually
Kevin Spisak: Yeah.
Chief Wedge Officer: a friend of the pod, Kenny Kenny the arms dealer was telling me that the GTS four is like more forgiving now.
Kevin Spisak: I think it's supposed to be like last year's GTS three in terms of forgiveness, but then this year's GTS three would be kind of like the GTS the GT2 from last year, but more low spin.
Chief Wedge Officer: So the thing that the cat that the titleist doesn't have going for it is I don't like to see my reflection when I hit driver. And I feel like the titleist is a big reflection driver. Yeah.
Dominic: I was about to say that.
Kevin Spisak: Yeah, definitely. Very shiny.
Chief Wedge Officer: And I think that that's where the ping has a leg up. So we'll see. By this time next week, I want to have the new driver.
Kevin Spisak: Yeah. The little the ping turbulators really help with lining up where your ball is. If you want to correct the the no alignment dot on your calloway, you could really go to the far other end of the spectrum with the turbulators.
Chief Wedge Officer: True, true.
Dominic: say too there's like earlier this year you had mentioned I forgot who won with the G four forty and you had said I I don't know why I switched away from it. So like I feel like you should get back to it.
Chief Wedge Officer: Yeah, I had G four I had the G twenty five, G f G twenty five back in the day. G four twenty five maybe I think it was. Yeah, G four twenty five. and it was fantastic.
Kevin Spisak: Yeah.
Chief Wedge Officer: but I also had the T S R three and I loved it, so that's a that's another and then Three Wood. so QI thirty five three wood, I'm thinking. Taylor made three woods are freaking good. That's all I mean they're just good three woods. And they're good woods.
Kevin Spisak: Why why the Q I thirty five and and not QI forty?
Chief Wedge Officer: Honestly, second swing is kinda having a smoking deal on QI thirty fives right now, so that was my thought.
Kevin Spisak: Thought the QI like every PJ tour player like just bagged bagged knot in their bag, got rid of the QI 35 as fast as they could. Yeah.
Chief Wedge Officer: The driver, yes, but not the
Kevin Spisak: Even though what's like cause there's still some QI tens sitting out there.
Chief Wedge Officer: Okay, so Q I thirty five or Q I ten or Q I forty. We'll see.
Kevin Spisak: Okay. Okay.
Chief Wedge Officer: and then Payton G four forty LST three wood. And then honestly, I mean I the G the G T one Tor, which was supposed to compete with kind of that that Q I forty, Q I ten model. So
Kevin Spisak: Yeah, definitely big boat there for the the GT one tour played by a guest on the under the covers podcast, Brendan. He he's got the GT one three wood three tour stronger lofted than a normal, you know, three wood, you know, but the bigger profile. So I think you would get some added distance, added forgiveness. You'd just be a bomber with that thing. I I would That'd be my vote.
Chief Wedge Officer: And I've really considered I I will say I have the stealth three hybrid and that thing is like my secret weapon. I love that little thing. So I do like Tailor Made Woods. So I'm a little bit biased, but we'll see how we'll see what happens. By this time next week, I want to have a finalized.
Kevin Spisak: That much your vote.
Dominic: It's a hard choice. I mean, I know nothing about your like specific swing where it's like does any of them help you more or less? but like the ping I feel like looks sick to look down on. I like the matte finishes.
Chief Wedge Officer: For sure.
Dominic: So I'll just say ping. And cause we love ping. We're a ping for the podcast.
Kevin Spisak: Yeah. Yeah. You can't you can't go wrong with anything in the four forty line. I've
Dominic: Yeah.
Kevin Spisak: got the four forty max seven wood and that that is my ultimate cheat code club. You you can't mishead it.
Chief Wedge Officer: Yeah, it's I don't know. It's gonna be interesting. We'll see, man. It's gonna be fun. Either way. It is. It is.
Dominic: It is a fun decision to make. I know that. Yeah.
Chief Wedge Officer: I wanna I wanna hit a bunch of I plan to hit a bunch of them this weekend, so we'll see how it goes. yeah, so we got the the event this week, so the PG Tour is off. Remember, no PG Tour this week. week zero college football or week one, whatever they call it. And then we have the Walker Cup. so the Walker Cup is at is the amateur version of essentially the Ryder Cup, except that it's only Great Britain and Ireland, so it's not all of Europe. so we got the it's at Lahinch this week. which is kind of an Irish masterpiece, super cool golf course. it's gonna be great coffee golf. So if you wake up early on Labor Day and you wanna watch some golf or Labor Day weekend. there's always a couple good jokes. So Stuart Hagestad like thirty five and he's plays in like every Rider Cup. He's like the ultimate amateur that's not a pro. He's like still he's like the guy that never turned pro. He's just as good as a lot of the pros. But I do want to touch on some of the well, a couple people. So people to watch for, US Amateur Champion, Ethan Fang, E Luke Poulter, Ian Poulter's son plays for the I the GB and I team. so that's cool. But man, the future venue list that are announced for the ri the Walker Cup this year has at La Hinch, next year's Bandon Dunes, Princess Golf Club in England. Oakmont, Chicago Golf Club, National Golf Links of America, Pine Valley, Cypress Point Seminole. That's freaking sick.
Dominic: Unreal.
Chief Wedge Officer: That's badass. If you're a good junior golfer coming up in the up upcoming ranks, that should be all the motivation you need to make the Walker Cup team.
Dominic: I wonder if that's
Chief Wedge Officer: So
Dominic: part of it.
Chief Wedge Officer: I it's gotta be. I mean,
Dominic: That's crazy.
Chief Wedge Officer: yeah, it's nuts. But super sick, excited to watch this weekend.
Dominic: be fun if you're like, you know, what is that? One, two, three, four, six, seven years into getting to the Walker Cup age, and you're like, okay, my first official one that I could play is Pine Valley. No pressure.
Kevin Spisak: Is it does it not go back and forth between Great Britain and yeah.
Chief Wedge Officer: It does. I don't think G B and I venues are announced yet. Yeah.
Kevin Spisak: okay, gotcha. So so we know like very, very far into the future. 'Cause these are like you know, from
Chief Wedge Officer: Every two.
Kevin Spisak: from Oakmont to Seminole, those are all US ones, you know, but so that'd be you know, twelve twelve years in in the future on a s wait, is the Walker Cup every two years? Just like Ryder Cup?
Chief Wedge Officer: No every year.
Kevin Spisak: Okay. Alright, so yeah, we'd be twelve years into the future for just those, you know, on top of those are still still even more in the future on Bandon and Princess. I guess what, or sixteen years in the future now?
Chief Wedge Officer: Yeah. But it's gonna be cool, man. That's it's gonna be a fun week, so excited.
Dominic: Alright, well lastly, we we said it was gonna be a a quick podcast, but we just we just love chit chatting with each other. but last thing we'll go into is the final tally for one and done's for the whole year. And so we we ended up kind of cutting it off at the Wyndham Championship, so the start of the playoffs, and we had like a separate bet. So I'll kind of give you two scores here. So for the Tour championship. Matt went Patrick Cantley. Kevin went with Sam Burns. And I had Scotty saved him for a good time. Scotty obviously won, gave me my third win of the year. I also MB in the running for player of the year. Sam Burns was eighteen. And then Matthew, aka Patrick Cantley, I read that wrong, was at twenty-one. So Matt's score for the whole year was one thousand five hundred and seventy-three. And then for the playoff bet, he was at 109. and then Kevin, he went for the whole year, 1,116. And then for the playoffs, he was at fifty seven. And then Dominic was at seven hundred and fifty nine for the full year and was only at thirty seven for the the playoffs. So ended up getting the clean sweep this year. It was a fun it was a fun time. I already know it's not gonna be the same next year, but I'm gonna relish him in the first victory.
Chief Wedge Officer: Congratulations, Doc.
Kevin Spisak: Congrats, Don.
Dominic: Are y'all gonna get butt
Kevin Spisak: You did it.
Dominic: tattoos now? Is that that was the deal? I love it. It's my face like this.
Kevin Spisak: Yep, right over the middle.
Dominic: Yeah. Straight down the middle.
Chief Wedge Officer: That's good.
Kevin Spisak: I'd say my seasoned for one and done's can be chalked up to I used big names on their worst weeks.
Dominic: Yeah. Which is unreal. And then the next week they did well.
Kevin Spisak: Mm-hmm.
Chief Wedge Officer: would say my f one word that describes my season is unfair.
Dominic: Why is that?
Chief Wedge Officer: Just I just I just I just think I got I think I got unfair picks.
Dominic: They're your picked. You're you pick first the entire
Kevin Spisak: Because you you picked them.
Dominic: year.
Chief Wedge Officer: I think I think I I was unfairly punished for going out of my out of the b out I was unfairly punished for believing in guys that didn't
Dominic: Okay, that's fair. I would also say you know too much about golf where you know all these like kind of lower level names that you that you know can go off at any point and it just wasn't it wasn't their week.
Chief Wedge Officer: Yeah.
Dominic: I just keep looking at these like the the three two from Speed is rough.
Chief Wedge Officer: Unfair, unfair.
Dominic: Unfair. And like the one time you chose Scotty, he he was twenty eighth.
Chief Wedge Officer: Yeah.
Kevin Spisak: Yeah. It was it was like you were making one and done picks as if the season was like four hundred weeks long. You
Dominic: Yeah.
Kevin Spisak: really were not wanted to use guys early.
Chief Wedge Officer: This is why I don't bet, Kevin. I'm not a better.
Dominic: Which is probably b good. Nobody really needs betting in the
Kevin Spisak: Yeah, D Dom
Dominic: But it's fun.
Kevin Spisak: gave us a brief tease in the middle of the season with the RBC followed by the US Open with Corey Connors at eighty-nine and Patrick Reed at one sixty-four. That was a brief tease that we could get back into it and then quickly slam the door shut following that.
Dominic: Yeah, I was a little I was my knees were knocking because we had talked about how good I was doing and I was like, shit. Two horrible ones
Kevin Spisak: Yeah.
Dominic: in a row. man. But it's fun. It'll be fun to do that next year. get a little bit more locked in. you know, since we started at the Genesis, we actually I think we missed another one too. But No, sorry. We only missed three tournaments, three or four. But we'll definitely we'll get back into it. It's gonna be a good time. like we said, tune in next week.
