Dominic: Hello and welcome back to another edition of Under the Covers. We are deep into fall season right now and we we got our boys back with us. Kevin, how you doing today? I see you with Rockin' the Guardians gear.
Kevin Spisak: Yep, we are f in full playoff baseball mode. Playoff baseball is so stressful to watch. but we're having a good time with it. Go Guardians. I was a bit of a a bad boy and did not watch much golf this week. So excited to learn from from you guys on on what happened.
Dominic: I will admit I'm right there with you and we will turn turn the tables over to our boy Maddie Pooh Pooh. How you doing, Matt?
Chief Wedge Officer: Dom, what's up man? fall season, tinker time for the golf bag. I love it. I'm spider curious. I am short irons curious. and I think I am getting myself into a Ventus Black. so we're gonna see see where the wind takes us. I'm getting ready for spring training.
Dominic: Ooh. I like that. When you when you say short iron curious, what are you gonna switch into?
Chief Wedge Officer: Dude, I am I am thinking about taking anywhere from a half inch to a full inch off my iron sets, lengthwise. I've been playing with some phenomenal golfers, some Corn Fairy guys, some ex-Corn Fairy guys, and every one of them has shorter irons or the irons look very short. Even all the clubs, they look very short in their hands. I'm thinking that we're being bamboozled by big equipment selling us longer irons. to hit it further with worse contact. So that's where I'm going. I'm I'm going down a deep rabbit hole this season.
Dominic: Interesting. So you weren't meaning short irons as like nine to nine to seven. You were literally meaning you're gonna make your iron shorter.
Chief Wedge Officer: I'm gonna cut down all my irons.
Dominic: that's fun. Okay.
Kevin Spisak: Yeah. I kinda like it. Like, I remember when I did my driver fitting, you know, for the very first time, you know, a million years ago, being blown away at like how many PGH war players play shorter drivers because if you hit it more in the center of the face, you hit it further. You know, versus like you know, longer club, faster swing speed, but contact is much more important.
Dominic: Heck yeah, yeah. Keep us updated there. so wanted to get into the PGA tour. we also got some live updates as well that we'll get into. And then just some some normal golf news going on, D P world tour, things like that. But Michael Brennan, Matt, fill us in. What what happened with Michael Brennan this week?
Chief Wedge Officer: Dom, you know, from from the famous Whitney Engles newsletter a few weeks ago after the president's cup, yours truly, predicted that Michael Brennan was gonna be the s surprise Ryder Cup pick in 2027. And guess what? We're well on our way to him making the Ryder Cup. This is his third win in a year-ish time. He won the Utah Championship about a year ago, Windell a couple months ago, and now the Bay Current Classic this week out. Japan at Yogahama Country Club. pretty good field actually. It was pretty entertaining to watch. it was awesome on Saturday night to to watch LSU lose, watch Alabama lose, and then turn on golf in Japan and watch Adam Scott hit hit iron shots into into some sick holes. so what a what a night. but yeah, it's a core crenshaw design out there. but yeah, you had people like Keith Mitchell, Jacob Bridgeman, Xander Shoffley, Minwoo Lee was in the mix. Even a speed sighting we saw for a little bit out there, he made an appearance, made some interesting comments about you know, going out to Montana and cosplaying Cowboy trying to find his game out there a little bit. we'll see how that how that does for him. but yeah, Michael Brennan, the speed demon, takes him down, makes a bunch of birdies coming home. and and and wins the bay current. so yeah, he's he's well on his way. I think I think we're in I think we're in that territory of, you know, somebody having a really good fall and then breaking out kind of the next year as one of those guys that's like, okay, this dude's for real. kind of like what Speath did, I think it was what, twenty thirteen, where he won Tigers tournament and like a bunch of things in kind of the winter and then came around and, you know, won the Masters the next year the next season and stuff. So again Michael Brennan, if you haven't watched it, go watch the TPI video from Michael Brennan a couple weeks ago. The dude has some crazy tendencies, loud traits, if you will. I think he cruises at one eighty five ball speed with his driver, which is insane.
Dominic: That's crazy. His swing is sweet. You're you showed me last week, every driver looks like a stinger. How how fast it gets off of his club. It's crazy.
Chief Wedge Officer: It has to be the most picturesque swing young guns swing on tour. Like outside of Adam Scott. But it was crazy, like watching you were watching Adam Scott and Michael Brennan play golf on Saturday night. It doesn't get much better swingly.
Dominic: So w how how is the bay current like what what was the course like?
Chief Wedge Officer: It was super cool. I would go there to play that golf course. I love Cork Crenshaw. I think they're one of my favorite designers. they did Bandon Trails. they did Trinity Forest out here in Dallas. they have a bunch of really, really famous courses around the world, Cabot Cliffs. and yeah, just a cool, cool golf course. It looked packed. the Japanese fans showed up and showed out. I think they don't get a lot of golf. professional golf out there, especially men men wise, so when it does come I think they show out. I would absolutely think I I feel like more people should show up at that tournament. I I feel like Rory needs to be there, Scotty needs to be there. Like you need to that you need to elevate that event as a almost like Jet Japan Open of some sorts, not just the Bay Current classic. treat it like the Australian Open, treat it like the Scott Scottish Open stuff.
Dominic: I was gonna ask about that too, like so D P world tour stuff's going on too. like Rory's at the D P World India Championship. Is is it normal for those big names to play in these tournaments like Baker and I know you you listed off a a bunch of, you know, kind of popular names, but are people typically doing more D P world in the fall or is it just depend on the year?
Chief Wedge Officer: I would say the Euro guys are playing more D P World Tour events. So one of the stipulations for keeping D P world membership is you have to play a minimum number of events on the D P World Tour. So all those guys like Rory, Shane, Tommy Fleetwood, like they all have to go play a certain amount so they can keep that membership. Whereas like Scotty Scheffler, he's not a member of the D P World Tour. He just plays in one or two a year that are co sanctioned with the PJ Tour. so you that's why you see a lot of the Euro guys going over there. But yeah, I mean this is the fall is when we have kind of the the silly season. Not the silly season, but just the international season, right? You have the Aussie Open, you have the Indian Open and you have the Irish Open that happened a couple of weeks ago. Just just kind of those events that don't fit into the main schedule but are kind of around the world tournaments, which I think are super cool. I think they should have more of them. I think it's what Lib should have targeted from the beginning, but we we'll probably get there.
Dominic: I think there's a lot of things that Live could be doing differently. Well, Kevin, why don't you take us through we already kinda talked about it you said it was about a month ago, but let us know what Michael Brandon has under the covers.
Kevin Spisak: Yeah, like you mentioned, he won the windem earlier and we covered his club's end. So if you want a more in-depth view, go back and listen to that episode. But you know, quick highlights. Title is GT3 driver with hazardous blue small batch. so it's like the kind of P V D paint color blue, older shaft, you know, model year old titleist driver. Then he gets into the Titles GTS prototype three wood with a Titan yellow. So he goes from, you know, kind of an older model in the driver to brand new, brand new with a prototype and the you know Titan Yellow, which we've talked about with Wyndham Clark's clubs. so that's the the counterbalance ultra stiff, you know, replacement to the hazardous yellow. but the the GTS prototype, Jackson Coivin has one too, and we're not necessarily necessarily sure like what what the special features are of the prototype, but some of the pictures on the interwebs going around make it look pretty sweet. Matt, have you learned anything about the prototype?
Chief Wedge Officer: So they did the same thing with the GT1 tour, if I'm not mistaking, right? They
Kevin Spisak: Mm-hmm.
Chief Wedge Officer: there's a prototype out first. I'm assuming that this is just gonna be the GTS like the Tor, like the GTS1 tour or something like that.
Kevin Spisak: Mm-hmm.
Chief Wedge Officer: I don't think there's a GTS 1-3 with.
Kevin Spisak: No, no, there's not a GTS one three wood. as a as kind of a like a replacement for that, they did like the GTS two in like a thirteen degree or something like that. so I I think this would be, you know, a more forgiving option, you know, at at I I I was gonna, you know, say reduce loft, but it looks like he's playing this at fifteen degrees. So, you know, you know, when he was interviewed about it, he said he was getting more consistency across the face on spin. So like his his toe shots, you know, weren't going too far and his heel shots weren't overspinning. so he felt like he had more control and could really like haul off on it.
Chief Wedge Officer: Interesting he hasn't gone to GTS on the driver though.
Kevin Spisak: Yeah, yeah, definitely. yeah, the GT three, such a such a good driver. How good he hits it. You know, I could see it being kind of like a Scotty QI ten thing. If it's it's not broke, don't fix it. so continuing on, he does go to the GTS three and a seven wood, still with the Titan yellow. Then Irons, title is T one hundred on the four and five, and then title as T Or sorry, title is six twenty C Bs six through nine with Project X six point five. So pretty stout shafts, not the most stout, but you know stout for us normal people. wedges, SM eleven, he's got a forty six f grind, fifty f grind, fifty four s grind that's bent to a fifty five, and then a sixty degree grind. So that seems pretty typical for Lots of the players we've covered, you know, obviously lots of titleess wedges out there. Yeah, and these are the grinds we very typically see you know in in the grinds for each loft. So nothing nothing too crazy there. and then his putter is pretty sweet. Scotty Cameron, Golo Six, Circle T. I think we covered this one, you know, in our last episode. He's been playing it for a while. And I believe Matt pointed out before that. Yeah, the the Golo's played by some of the the best putters on tour. So cool model there if you like Scottie Cameron's.
Chief Wedge Officer: Tried to try to hit the go low, but it just doesn't fit me. one thing to comment on his stamps on his wedges. Man, I feel like I I'm starting to get around. Maybe it's my old age, but I feel like if you just have your initials stamped on your wedges, you kinda mean business. Like I feel like if you have a lot of stuff stamped on your wedges, you might not be a good wedge player, hand up.
Kevin Spisak: Yeah.
Dominic: Ha ha ha.
Chief Wedge Officer: I feel like when you just like, yeah, dude, just put B on my wedges and and I'll You're kind of you kinda mean business and I feel like Michael Brennan means
Kevin Spisak: Yeah. I'm I'm trying to trying to think like what
Dominic: I love that actually. He says as he stamps the shit out of my wedges.
Chief Wedge Officer: I know, as I as I put, you know, you owe me a ten second carum.
Dominic: That one's sick.
Chief Wedge Officer: What were you gonna say, Kevin?
Kevin Spisak: say like I'm trying to think of like what the equivalent of that is for like the rest of the clubs. Like, you know, when you just like I don't know, you walk up to someone's bag and you're like you get paired with a random guy and you see their bag before them and you're like, this guy's gonna be a weenie
Chief Wedge Officer: Yeah. It's like shoot it's like shooting sleeves in basketball.
Kevin Spisak: Yeah. Mm-hmm.
Dominic: there you go.
Kevin Spisak: But yeah, the stamps that you've done have been very cool. I wouldn't say those are overdoing it or anything. You know, but I've
Chief Wedge Officer: Thank you, Ken.
Kevin Spisak: definitely seen some online that are overdoing it.
Dominic: What's what's one thing if you're looking at someone's bag that would tell like, yeah, okay, he's good?
Chief Wedge Officer: I always look for a set pitch. I always look for a Vokey pitching ledge. If they got a Vokey forty six degree in the bag, I feel like
Dominic: I like that.
Chief Wedge Officer: What about you, Kevin?
Kevin Spisak: Yeah.
Dominic: Yeah, everything.
Kevin Spisak: I mean this one's like pretty obvious, but if it's like blades that are a few model years old and have you can like see the wear pattern from like a million miles away, then it's like yeah, they're playing a lot of golf. I don't know that I've ever owned a set of irons nor hit the center of face of the face enough to make that wear pattern.
Chief Wedge Officer: Pause. Kevin, these are my this is one of my most prized possessions. I've kept it through thick and thin.
Kevin Spisak: Yeah, yeah, that's what I'm talking about. Yeah.
Chief Wedge Officer: I I I don't like to say I'm a good ball striker, but this is one thing that I like to look back and say, Man, you used to be a good ball striker. Well
Kevin Spisak: Who who's a better ball striker, you or Draymond Green?
Chief Wedge Officer: Steph Curry.
Kevin Spisak: Yeah.
Dominic: Yeah.
Chief Wedge Officer: But I do like to throw the Nike in there. Draymond Green sucks. I hate Draymond Green.
Kevin Spisak: Ha ha.
Chief Wedge Officer: He's he ruined the so many he ruined the Rockets chances of ever winning a an event. Or a a NBA championship.
Dominic: Anyways, I was gonna say I I saw some stuff on James Harden where they would just get absolutely hammered on the team plane and like just have cases of tequila and just pass it out. And I'm like, Well that's why they sucked for a while in the playoffs. Got it, okay.
Kevin Spisak: Yeah, some of the stories you hear from like the older guys, like what they've done in the locker room or on trips, like crazy. They like JR.
Dominic: my gosh. I wonder if there's any like there's like you know, John Daly. I wonder if there's any other there's gotta be other golf stories that we haven't heard that'll come out in in podcasts
Kevin Spisak: Yeah, totally.
Dominic: in ten years.
Chief Wedge Officer: It's kinda like Phil Mickelson, right? It's like James Harden's probably doing the same thing Phil Mickelson does, just different sports, I guess.
Kevin Spisak: Mm.
Chief Wedge Officer: Ha ha ha.
Dominic: Dude, he speaking of, he was I'll see if I could find the tweet real quick. He's gambled a total of like a billion dollars. No, maybe
Chief Wedge Officer: Phil?
Dominic: he's won his total winnings or something. The numbers are staggering.
Chief Wedge Officer: Yeah, I mean they were saying I mean there were the whole book, Al Alan Shipnuck's book Where they went through like his whole gambling stuff, there was there was talks that he couldn't pay his caddy at one point because of how much he was paying.
Dominic: Really?
Kevin Spisak: so crazy. Wasn't there one that came out to like today or like yesterday or something about him betting on the Ryder Cup that he was playing in or tried to, but
Dominic: That's the exact one.
Kevin Spisak: yeah.
Chief Wedge Officer: Probably why I don't go on it.
Dominic: Yeah, so he had he had called his betting partner, like his gambling partner, to place a four hundred thousand dollar bet on the Ryder Cup. And then that guy, who's like very famous for betting and has pl won a lot of money, he essentially compared him to Pete Rose. He's like, I'm not doing that. Like I'm gonna get you in trouble and you're gonna get yourself in trouble. that was back in twenty twelve. And turns out in twenty seventeen that same guy who told him no was convicted of insider trading and was sent to federal prison.
Kevin Spisak: Yeah.
Dominic: my gosh. So he said Mickelson placed about one billion dollar in bets over the years and lost around a hundred million. So like he's made a lot of money on gambling.
Kevin Spisak: Wow.
Dominic: That's incredible. My goodness.
Chief Wedge Officer: I mean, Phil had his run ins with the SEC, right?
Dominic: He did?
Kevin Spisak: Yeah, I remember him being investigated.
Chief Wedge Officer: yeah. Allegedly.
Kevin Spisak: Yeah.
Chief Wedge Officer: Allegedly. Remember you have to say it allegedly on podcasts.
Dominic: yeah, you're right. Allegedly. Speaking of speaking of winnings and urge
Chief Wedge Officer: It just it just means more.
Dominic: Schulte, if you're listening, we didn't get paid for that match play. I I haven't seen a lick of that money. I think we were owed our four dollars.
Chief Wedge Officer: Yeah, we're
Kevin Spisak: Did I ben
Chief Wedge Officer: not.
Kevin Spisak: I Venmoed you.
Dominic: You did?
Kevin Spisak: Yeah, Shulti Ven mode me and then I sent it to you guys.
Dominic: dear.
Chief Wedge Officer: I I don't know if I ever got it.
Dominic: Think I think you're Soheo Taniing us right now.
Kevin Spisak: No, I no, I put it I put it in our expenses from the weekend.
Dominic: okay. Gotcha. That's why I didn't I didn't catch it.
Kevin Spisak: Yeah, no, it's if you go back to the splitwise, it was in there. Anyways
Dominic: Well dang it. Egg on my face. I'm sorry, Mark. I'm sorry.
Kevin Spisak: We've we've gone down the rabbit hole. Let's bring it back some
Dominic: Yeah, yeah. Let's get back. Okay, so let's get back to the live
Chief Wedge Officer: Pull it back in, let's pull it back in.
Dominic: news.
Chief Wedge Officer: Okay.
Dominic: so John Rahm officially has declared that he is leaving Live Golf. Sorry, Live 1.0. He's leaving. and is gonna try to go down the DP World tour route. there's there's a good there's a good list of people. Sergio's trying. he got his contract voided. he kind of said that he might, you know, might try out the Champions League or Champions Tour, sorry, depending on what it is. But then Abraham Answer is also going to the D P world tour. is there any names that I'm that I'm missing? I think there's some big ones that I'm I'm forgetting about, Matt.
Chief Wedge Officer: yeah, I mean, I think Terrell Hatton, I don't think that he's said anything yet. I know Adrian Moronk and Cameron Trangalli have committed to Live two point mostly because I don't I don't know anywhere else that's gonna want
Dominic: Yeah.
Chief Wedge Officer: Oops.
Dominic: Who? That was like his I am not gonna pronounce his name right. Juiced J-O-O-S-T. How do you pronounce that?
Chief Wedge Officer: Yo Slauten?
Dominic: Yeah, Yost Lauten. He was he was in the news talking about how he doesn't think it's fair. I know, not even close. He's like, he was saying that he doesn't
Kevin Spisak: Yeah.
Dominic: want any live players to join at all. Yeah. I was like, I don't even know how to start with this one, and I know it's gonna be bad. But he
Chief Wedge Officer: No.
Dominic: I was gonna ask y'all what y'all think of them
Kevin Spisak: Yeah.
Dominic: going through the DP World Tour and like Taking all the money and then essentially coming back with very minimal repercussions. Does that do you think what they're gonna like going through a full year of DP World Tour, do you think that's fair enough to get back into the PGA tour?
Kevin Spisak: say like briefly, you know, it's like the the Saudis with the PIF got exactly what they wanted. You know, they created Live. caused this whole storm and it wound up getting them to be invested in the PJ tour, which like they ultimately wanted anyway. So it's like they got what they wanted. These players got, you know, bags of cash and whatever. So it's like both sides used each other and now it's in this like blow up phase. So, you know, I I think it kind I don't know. I've been against Live for a long time, but now I feel like it's just whatever.
Chief Wedge Officer: I I I I don't mean to be mean to Arizona State, but I feel like John Rom's Arizona State degree is really coming in. It's maybe not the sharpest toolbox in the tool shed. I
Dominic: Arizona State's an accredited university.
Chief Wedge Officer: I just so like he John Rom like basically got goaded into signing a contract that he didn't really get paid his full amount for and he now so if you think about the way that the tour is working itself out, Jon Rom has to sit out one entire year of the PJ Tour. He can't play a PJ Tour event for a year. So in theory, our boy, Patrick Reed, is is available. He could play in a PJ Tour event if he wanted to, because he sat out a full year from Liv.
Dominic: I think did you miss speak before? You said set out a full PGA tour year.
Chief Wedge Officer: A f of a f he can't play John Rom, you can't play a PGA tour event from twelve months after you play your last live event. So John
Dominic: Okay, gotcha.
Chief Wedge Officer: Rom played his last live event in August of twenty twenty six. So he will not be able to play a PJ Tour event until September of twenty twenty-seven. Okay. and so the with the way that the PJ Tour is doing its new schedule, this year is the last year to qualify for the new PGA tour. So, like the top 50 on the PGA tour or the top 75, whatever it is, will qualify for the championship division. And then everybody else will qualify for the challenger division in 2028, right? Well, John Rahm won't be a part of any of that. So he has to play well on the DP World Tour in 2027, then he could qualify for the Championship Division in 2022. So in theory, we might not see John Rom in a like a Memorial Tournament Championship or Tory Pines or the Arnold Palmer invitational until 2029. Whereas Patrick Reed, because he quit last year and played on the DP World Tour this year and got his PJ Tour card, will see him in those big tournaments in 2028.
Kevin Spisak: Would the fastest option be, you know, come like August? He plays in some challenger series event and wins and then gets to the championship event like level?
Chief Wedge Officer: No, 'cause the fall series only gets you into challengers in twenty twenty seven.
Kevin Spisak: Yeah, but like for like this year, 'cause he'll catch he'll catch some events right but right before the playoffs start. He'll catch like one or two maybe. Like wouldn't he have to like win one or something?
Chief Wedge Officer: No, but he won't even have a PJ tour card. He can't play in them. Because he doesn't have a PJ tour. Like he can't just start in the middle of the season. He has to the reason Patrick Reed's
Kevin Spisak: Like
Chief Wedge Officer: able to got his PJ tour card back from the DP world
Kevin Spisak: Yeah, like like I mean I don't I don't know. Maybe I'm overthinking it. Like he he sits out, he plays, he he weights his band, but plays well enough on the D P world tour to get into you know, a PJ tour event before the playoffs start. Like, is that possible?
Chief Wedge Officer: No, because the playoffs are over in August and his ban is through August of next year.
Dominic: That's what I was just looking up. So the last live event was Indianapolis. I was thinking it
Chief Wedge Officer: Right.
Dominic: was Mexico, but it was it was Indianapolis on August twenty fifth. Yeah.
Kevin Spisak: okay. Yeah. Okay. So that would be like right about the BMW time frame. Yeah.
Dominic: Mm-hmm.
Chief Wedge Officer: Yeah, exactly. And
Dominic: So then Matt, with like DP World Tour, that would that consider I mean maybe like if he plays super well in the majors, could he potentially get if he wins all four majors, he could probably have enough points to qualify.
Chief Wedge Officer: That that's the way to do it. That's what he has to do. He essentially has to win a major next year and then he'll get into the bigger stuff. But there's a there's a real chance that we don't see John Ron playing the highest level of competitive PJ tour golf until twenty twenty.
Dominic: That's crazy. What you get. That's I am curious though, because it's like why if why is it still separate? I mean, it it didn't really get too many viewers, but like the issue with Live was that it's backed by Saudi money. But now that that's out, like people still have an issue with it. Like they're still treating it, you know, like they want to push it away. So I'm curious why
Kevin Spisak: Now you
Dominic: at this point.
Kevin Spisak: now you don't have like the structure and payday of the PIF. Like it you know, it just doesn't have any real like, you know, you could you could be out of the PGA tour and not like be a part of the legacy of the tour because you were just getting bags of cash. Now that they're like, you know, going bankrupt and you know, totally changing structure. It's like there's not gonna be the same bags of cash. So you might as well go try to like build your legacy on tour again.
Dominic: Mm-hmm.
Chief Wedge Officer: Yeah. I mean I think it's still considered I think the PJ Tour has its whole thing where it's still considered like a a competitor league where the DP World Tour isn't considered a competitor.
Dominic: Yeah.
Chief Wedge Officer: And so they have the rules against it. But I yeah, I mean it's just it's it's crazy how the difference in Brooks Kepka and and Patrick Reed jumping ship a year early basically put them so far ahead of of John Rahm and and and players like that. But I mean the DP World Tour is gonna get a huge bump out of this, right? 'Cause they're getting all these really good players that are gonna only play DP World Tour.
Dominic: Mm-hmm. I was about to mention that was that was what the other headline that came out is that DP World Tour is essentially putting their foot down saying if you join Live two point you cannot play DP World Tour, which we kind of expected. That's kind of what PGA's already doing. So it's not like the craziest of news, but they're essentially drawing like that's the line. Like they've created the line.
Chief Wedge Officer: And I think the the players you have to feel the worst for is like the guy from Old Miss that's like the new guy, what's his name? Michael Lasasso. He he
Dominic: yeah.
Chief Wedge Officer: has he has no status anywhere. I mean he can't
Dominic: Mm-hmm.
Chief Wedge Officer: just be like I'm a European tour. They're gonna be like, You don't you're not even a European Tour member. You don't have European Tour status, you don't have any world ranking, like the only thing he has is I won the NCAA is two years ago.
Kevin Spisak: Does the D P World Tour do the same like Monday qualifying that the PJ Tour does?
Chief Wedge Officer: I think they do, yeah. So in theory, yeah, he could he could do that, but man, he's it's he's he's in a tough he's in a tough spot. But yeah, there's I think Live two point is is gonna be is gonna be pretty if there is even a Lib two point I think it's gonna be pretty watered down I don't think it's gonna be very good. Yeah.
Dominic: Yeah, pretty boring. Well speaking of D P World Tour, tell us about the the D P World India Championship a little bit. Get into a little bit of roaring news.
Chief Wedge Officer: Yeah, I mean I think the Rory news is starts from the belt down. I mean his pants. Have you did you guys see his pants?
Kevin Spisak: Ha ha
Dominic: Man, the I think p everyone's gonna start going back to tighter pants. The the lo the loose
Chief Wedge Officer: You think everyone's
Dominic: pants trend is officially dead. Sorry, Tommy Fleawood.
Kevin Spisak: Those pants were you know P. Reed's skinny pants that he was testing out, he accidentally put in Rory's locker.
Chief Wedge Officer: You're a bad guy. That's so mean.
Dominic: The the issue I have with him is if you wear that, you gotta have a looser shirt. Like he just looks goofy. Yes.
Chief Wedge Officer: I've been saying for years that Rory ha that Rory's shirts are too tight and that's the reason he hasn't won s enough major as many
Dominic: And like I love I love going with a different style of pant, but you have to change your shirt too. Like you can't keep the super tent skin tight top. You gotta you gotta match it. Like
Kevin Spisak: For you.
Dominic: Tommy. Tommy's a very relaxed fit the whole way.
Kevin Spisak: Yeah, or you you or you just have to have like more style, like minwoolie. You know, he can he can pull off with a a tighter top and lose bottoms.
Dominic: That's fair. Yeah, yeah. There's there's a swagger
Chief Wedge Officer: Think there is
Dominic: to it.
Chief Wedge Officer: Do you think there is Nike?
Dominic: That's a good qu I'm assuming.
Kevin Spisak: They've gotta be. Nike wouldn't let him be in anything else.
Dominic: Yeah, like
Chief Wedge Officer: Yeah.
Dominic: they would make a looser fit for I'm assuming they have those.
Chief Wedge Officer: So Do you think he's actually gonna plan
Dominic: They kind of look like dickies.
Kevin Spisak: It it reminds me.
Chief Wedge Officer: them?
Kevin Spisak: It he must have played like a practice round today, right? it reminds me of like when I graduated high school, my grandma took me to Macy's to buy me my first suit. And my my dad came along and was like very adamant that I get pleated pants. And and my grandma, like, you know. much older than my dad was like, no, those are so out of style, there's no way we're buying him pleats. And my dad was like, No, yeah, everyone needs a nice pair of pleats. It's like, do you know what a loser I would have looked like going into my first job interview in that suit?
Chief Wedge Officer: Kevin, I have three three pairs
Kevin Spisak: Yeah.
Chief Wedge Officer: of the nicest pants that are just I would never wear because they and I got for like an internship back in the day and it was like I just never wore because they were like printed big pants.
Kevin Spisak: Mm-hmm. yeah.
Chief Wedge Officer: These did remind me, remember when LeBron James got drafted?
Kevin Spisak: yeah. I I love the pictures of the like early two thousands NBA draft. Like the Vince
Chief Wedge Officer: Yeah.
Dominic: I love that, yeah.
Kevin Spisak: Carter suit, the Carmelo suit. they're so good.
Dominic: Heck yeah. I love a good pleated
Chief Wedge Officer: This reminded me of that.
Dominic: pant. You got I think I think pleated pants aren't as bad as we're making them seem unless they're on Dan Rappaport. I don't know why. He does not make those things look good.
Kevin Spisak: They're they're making a comeback. Lots of lots of f fashion things that like were really uncool fifteen years ago are coming back. But
Chief Wedge Officer: Why does why does Tommy Fleetwood make him look good, but Rory doesn't?
Dominic: swag. I think Tommy just is way more comfortable in it. Rory has the bounce. Like he's very tight, you know. I I don't know. It's just there's something about it.
Kevin Spisak: I feel like it's like if I wore those I would look so dumb. But like if Dom wore he could pull off.
Chief Wedge Officer: Alright, here how about this? This is a good this is a good bet. loser of of one and done's next year has to wear those pants at the Gimme Golf Member Guest next year.
Dominic: there you go. I like that.
Kevin Spisak: In in some August St. Louis heat, yeah that'd be nice.
Chief Wedge Officer: Right. Yeah.
Kevin Spisak: At least they'd be nice and airy.
Dominic: That's a fun bet. We haven't ha we haven't had a bet. That's a good one.
Chief Wedge Officer: Yeah.
Dominic: I was thinking of making we should do like a a betting corner and and do some bets with like on top of the one and done's. Or like put
Chief Wedge Officer: I like that.
Dominic: money on it. I feel like we have good picks, so we might as well try it, see what happens.
Chief Wedge Officer: otherwise, I mean the Indian Open is cool, man. It's just I mean it's kind of a pay for play thing. Like all these guys are getting getting kind of show up and show up and hang out fees from some of the big big Indian donors and all that sort of stuff. So I'm not surprised that you're seeing a bunch of the big guys show up, like Rory and Tommy and all those all those players. But I mean it's always cool I love again, I love seeing golf in different countries. Like I think we should have more golf in India tournaments, golf in Malaysia, golf in Africa. Like make these guys go places that get them uncomfortable and you know, you know, maybe who survives the food and who survives the golf, you know, it's kind of a double edged So
Kevin Spisak: Yeah. Get
Dominic: That'd be an interesting one. Whose stomach
Kevin Spisak: a lot more storage.
Dominic: can withstand? That's fun. I like that.
Chief Wedge Officer: Yeah. but yeah, no I'm all in. Tommy, Jason Day, Keith Mitchell's there. Keith Mitchell seems to be a world traveler. Anywhere there's like a cool tournament, Keith Mitchell shows up. Feels like it's kinda cool.
Dominic: I've been seeing Bridgeman's name a lot too. So like I don't know, maybe they're just trying to get their name out there a little bit. Think the last thing I wanted to touch to the last thing I wanted to touch on was Myura.
Chief Wedge Officer: Mira.
Kevin Spisak: Yeah.
Dominic: Dang it. Mira Mira Irons. They did a collaboration with Steph Curry. And my goodness. I don't I would I would go bankrupt for those. Those things are what? Five grand? Those things look sick.
Chief Wedge Officer: Do you like Stephen Curry?
Dominic: Does anybody not like Steph Curry?
Chief Wedge Officer: I think he also kinda ruined the Rockets chances of winnings.
Dominic: Well yeah. No not many people are beating him.
Kevin Spisak: I used to not be able to stand him.
Dominic: Yeah, it's it's essentially like it's like Tom Brady. Everyone hated him whenever he was destroying everybody's teams, but like towards the end of the career, you're like, Okay, I like this guy a lot. You know?
Chief Wedge Officer: Yeah, I guess right.
Dominic: But yeah, the the irons look sweet. very like sleek black. I was gonna go into they're they're like a mixture of different model numbers of theirs. So it's kinda interesting. but yeah, you can buy them on their website if you got it like that.
Chief Wedge Officer: Feels like blades are coming back a little bit.
Kevin Spisak: Yeah, blades seem like they're on a major resurgence right now.
Dominic: Like are are companies making blades more forgiving, or are people literally just like, I want blades now? cool.
Kevin Spisak: real quick one thing on Steph Curry way back in the day. I just thought this was funny. when it was like in the heat of like Cavs Warriors playing in the finals every year. I was in Cleveland going around this like farmer's market and someone was selling t shirts and like did this t-shirt front and center that just said Steph Curry sits to pee. I just thought that was so awesome. I wanted to get it.
Dominic: And you didn't?
Chief Wedge Officer: Excellent.
Kevin Spisak: No, no, I I thought that would be weird to wear, but but it'd be great to have that shirt and then be swinging his irons.
Dominic: Ha ha ha. jeez. I love it.
Chief Wedge Officer: Hey, they make lefties. They don't make the lefty Steph Curry ones, but they make lefty iron.
Kevin Spisak: Yeah, I would love to test them out. I feel I hear that they feel amazing, but I've never swung them.
Chief Wedge Officer: I've never hit a mirror.
Kevin Spisak: speaking of feeling amazing, Dom, why don't you tell our loyal listeners about your little iron testing?
Dominic: yeah. So I've been rocking the P seven nineties for what two years? and then I wanted to be like my friends and I was s scouring marketplace and I found the the perfect set for what I was looking for and I'm officially a Mizuno boy. got the Mizuno S threes from pitching wedge to six and then the five and four are cavity backs. So I can essentially hit long irons again, which is very nice. And then we're looking up the specs on them and I never realized P seven nineties are juiced like big time. I think what was it?
Kevin Spisak: Mm-hmm.
Dominic: Like on average it was like three degrees difference for loft, Kevin.
Kevin Spisak: Yeah, it's like two two to three degrees stronger or longer. and you know, one of our other loyal listeners has a set of M6s and those were even more de lofted. So it like a wild spectrum of strong lofts for like the super game improvement irons compared to players irons.
Dominic: Yeah, then so
Chief Wedge Officer: It's crazy what they say these days.
Dominic: Say it again.
Chief Wedge Officer: It's crazy like what they sell you on by like, we can gain you twenty yards. By well yes. If you hit a five iron that's labeled a seven iron, it'll gain you twenty yards
Dominic: It's crazy. I They feel great. I kind of wanted to move into more of a player's iron because like P seven nineties were fun, but I was kind of over sending one out of ten iron shots thirty yards past what I was aiming for. and then kind of like a I don't know what you'd call it. I was trying to think of a phrase, but playing with harder irons you can feel when you have a bad shot. So then I can kind of say, okay This was a bad tendency. Don't do that anymore. And I'm I'm getting way better now, I feel like. Like the swing is kinda I'm kinda honing it in a little bit. limiting my miss hits and things. So it's been very fun so far. and also shout out Brendan. I put on the Arcos grips as well. And that actually came with a free subscription. So just everything is incredible from that that gift that he gave me. so I've had a few rounds with an Arcos and getting better at that. So that's been super fun to track and just see like where I can improve on things. gotta work on my approach game. My driver's getting better, but my approach game is, you know, new irons, gotta figure that out. But overall, very fun switch. Super excited about it.
Kevin Spisak: Yeah, we gotta get Brendan a hat.
Dominic: Yeah, I like that.
Kevin Spisak: You guys want a trivia question? This
Dominic: Yeah.
Chief Wedge Officer: Is it about
Kevin Spisak: one's gonna be very, very straightforward, very basic. Just because I think it's a little obscure. But that contradicts itself. But anyways, trivia. If you don't remember, if one of them gets it, the other two chug a beer. So DP
Chief Wedge Officer: I have I have years.
Kevin Spisak: World India Championship coming up. The question is simply, who won it last year?
Chief Wedge Officer: Who won it last year? Tommy Fleawood.
Kevin Spisak: Gosh dang it. I was hoping I could just slip one in.
Dominic: Kevin.
Kevin Spisak: man. I was just hoping I could like make
Dominic: I think he just wanted to check here.
Kevin Spisak: you overthink it and s and just slip a an easy question
Chief Wedge Officer: No
Kevin Spisak: in.
Chief Wedge Officer: but it's crazy at this course they some some people don't even br pull driver out of the they they pull driver out of the bag at some time.
Dominic: Really?
Kevin Spisak: Yeah.
Chief Wedge Officer: It's so tight and short. No like
Dominic: Like would they go mini driver or
Chief Wedge Officer: Rory had the longest club he had was like it was his like three iron or something in the back. Like it's crazy.
Kevin Spisak: Okay, okay, okay. Matt Matt gets a do over. Dom, did you know that? Or would you have guessed Tommy Flea would? Okay. Matt, who finished
Dominic: No. No.
Kevin Spisak: in second? For for this to count, sorry, sorry listeners. I'm I'm changing the rules. I made the game. I get to pick the rules.
Dominic: Love it.
Chief Wedge Officer: Who finished in second?
Kevin Spisak: Matt, who came in second?
Chief Wedge Officer: man. Who finished in second? I remember it.
Kevin Spisak: If you if you get this, I'll chug two beers.
Dominic: Well
Chief Wedge Officer: Who finished in second? It was Tommy Fleetwood and I just remember 'cause his kid ran on the putting green and it was super cute. Frankie Fleetwood. No, he didn't come second, he's his kid.
Kevin Spisak: Mm-hmm.
Chief Wedge Officer: Man I Rory.
Kevin Spisak: Nope. Nope. Rory I don't see him. He Rory was T twenty six. second was Kita Nakajima.
Chief Wedge Officer: I would have never guessed that.
Kevin Spisak: Ha ha.
Dominic: I got one.
Kevin Spisak: All right, I'll go I'll go get one, I'll be right back.
Chief Wedge Officer: Good times, good times.
Dominic: I Dude, when you were talking about Michael Brennan, I was like going to type something to add to our golf news and I can't remember what it was.
Chief Wedge Officer: Convinced on the shorter iron thing though.
Dominic: Yeah, that'll be fun.
Chief Wedge Officer: Yeah, it's gonna be a fun project.
Dominic: Dude, do I need to extend mine? Well actually, let me say this.
Chief Wedge Officer: So it's all about your wrist to floor distance, not actually about how tall you are.
Dominic: I'll say this. So the last couple rounds, I've been like I've been not digging super far, but I feel like I've been digging more than I should. but I'm wondering if that's if I'm hitting it fine and I'm just like not putting the ball in the right position, or if I'm literally just like maybe I'm too steep and I'm cutting down too much.
Chief Wedge Officer: Yeah, it it's usually too usually too steep.
Dominic: dude, I thought he just fucking They're in the ninth inning. We didn't go fast enough for Kevin to watch.
Chief Wedge Officer: Michael Brennan Not only goes at 185 ball speed, he hit ninety-two percent of his fairways at the Bay Current Class.
Dominic: Geez. What you got, Kevin?
Kevin Spisak: Bud select in nice Cleveland Guardians. Great likes Bruin Company Glass. What's that?
Dominic: We hosted a we hosted a shower and we have a bunch of these Oktoberfests and I never actually had one.
Kevin Spisak: They're good.
Dominic: Cheers.
Chief Wedge Officer: Tears to Rory McElroy's pants, Stone.
Kevin Spisak: Yeah, Guardians lost. Fuck.
Chief Wedge Officer: Kevin, you being in the Guardians
Dominic: That's good.
Chief Wedge Officer: hat makes me think of Charlie Fiend.
Kevin Spisak: I dressed as him for Halloween one year. It's fun.
Chief Wedge Officer: I'm going at Magnum
Dominic: For this Matt?
Chief Wedge Officer: Yeah. Yeah.
Dominic: We've had plenty of parties in this bad boy. Old
Chief Wedge Officer: That's right.
Dominic: wow thing.
Kevin Spisak: Yeah, I would
Chief Wedge Officer: I'm going at Magnum PI.
Kevin Spisak: I I was at a Halloween party. it was the twenty sixteen year when the Indians were in the World Series versus the Cubs. I believe it was the game when they went up three one. I was it wearing that and just having like the time of my life thinking they were about to win the World Series. Nope.
Dominic: A tough one. It's a tough one. yeah, get all the marmalade.
Chief Wedge Officer: It can, there you go.
Dominic: You mean to close up while you finish?
Chief Wedge Officer: While Kevin while
Kevin Spisak: Not gonna say
Chief Wedge Officer: while Kevin
Kevin Spisak: it.
Chief Wedge Officer: While Kevin finishes beer, man, I hope the one thing that I do hope comes out of Live Golf is we somehow keep Ripper G C. I feel like they were the only cool team. They were the only team that like actually figured out how to keep themselves. Australia was behind them. We need to figure out how to keep Rip Ripper G C. R.I.P. Live Golf, Ripper lives on forever.
Dominic: I love that. What a sign off. Well beautiful. Thanks for listening. we got an off week this coming week. and then what what's the tournament after that? Butterball?
Chief Wedge Officer: The the butter the butterfield Bermuda
Dominic: Close enough.
Chief Wedge Officer: Peace.
Dominic: Alright, beautiful. Bye!
Chief Wedge Officer: Look.
